WELCOME!
This is the second year of robotics at KIPP University Prep HS. Our teams competed in the FIRST Tech Competition (FTC) and the First Robotics Competition (FRC). Our robotics program began with humble beginnings last year, but earned 18th place for team Triple Element and 15th place for Trailbubbas in the FTC.
This year we had new people and new competitions and established three new teams: the T-Birds, the Mad Monkeys, and the Rowdy Metal Bunch. Our robotics teams participated for the first time in the FRC and for the second year in a row at the FTC.
At the FTC, the Rowdy Metal Bunch placed 15th and the Mad Monkeys placed 11th. At the conclusion of the FIRST Tech Competition, the Rowdy Metal Bunch earned the "Motivate" award for its enthusiasm. Our students, staff and volunteers were excited to meet new people from all over Texas and the U.S. The T- Birds placed 42nd out of 64 teams. It was a challenging year for our program, but our studen enjoyed meeting new people and new robotics challenges.

We are currently selling our KIPP San Antonio Robotics T-shirts for $10. Get a t-shirt and cheer for your favorite team in upcoming matches. All proceeds go straight to our robotics class and next year's competitions. We also have individual robotics team T-Shirts for the Rowdy Metal Bunch, the T-Birds and the Mad Monkeys. WHAT IS FIRST?
FIRST is an acronym "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology" founded by inventor Dean Kamen and professor Woodie Flowers in 1990. Their goal was to develop and inspire students throughout the world in the fields of technology and engineering. FIRST's motto is "to create a world where science and technology are celebrated...where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes". FIRST admitted the KIPP University Prep HS Robotics team to compete against other students in the FTC and the FRC in March 2011.
