Hutchison and Bush Visit Aspire
|
< Back
Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, along with former First Lady Barbara Bush, visited KIPP San Antonio today as part of her campaign for governor.
KIPP San Antonio CEO Mark Larson introduced former Congressman Henry Bonilla, who introduced the former First Lady. Mrs. Bush was gracious and funny as she commented on KIPP Aspire's success and introduced Senator Hutchison. After citing the outstanding results of KIPP Aspire's students and School Director Joyce Boubel's leadership, Mrs. Bush looked at the students with a jokingly stern look and asked, "Is this school better than Barbara Bush Middle School?" (Barbara Bush MS is a Northside ISD school.) Mrs. Bush also said "I am the biggest fan of KIPP Academy that you have ever known."
Senator Hutchison spoke favorably of KIPP Aspire Academy and of charter schools in general, saying that they are an excellent option within our public school system. She believes that the dropout problem in Texas is one of the biggest educational and economic obstacles that our state faces.
