9th Grade English Teacher

Raised in San Antonio by two hardworking and dedicated parents (and grandmother), Eric J. Cruz started teaching in 2003 after earning his Master's degree from St. Mary's University. An unconventional yet passionate educator, Eric believes that all teaching resides in the root of love: for self, for others, and for possibility. Named Austin Independent School District's Teacher of the Year for 2008-2009 after five years of teaching, Eric now seeks to inspire and help students from San Antonio's inner city strive, thrive, and realize their immense potential as thinkers, changers, and dreamers in this world. At KIPP University Prep, he is teaching English I and Creative Writing.
