Daniel Eyer was born and raised in Palos Heights, Illinois. He attended the University of Iowa from 2003-2007 and graduated with high distinction and degrees in Political Science and Cinema. During college, he worked as a director of children's youth activities at the Museum of Natural History, where he first began to enjoy teaching and working with youth.  In 2007, he moved to Memphis, Tennessee and began teaching high school Algebra at Kingsbury High School.  He also coached soccer and tutored at Kingsbury.
