Undergraduate Admissions:
KIPPsters, as you begin to apply for undergraduate college admission to pursue an associates or bachelors degree, this section will serve as a guide on what you need to do during the process. Please note that this is just a guide, you should always review the specific requirements for each college or university you are interested in attending.
Minimum high school courses recommended for college based on Texas requirements:
English = 4 Units (include grammar, composition, literature)
Mathematics = 4 Units (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, & one course from the approved list)
Science = 4 Units (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, & one course from the approved list)
Social Studies = 3 ½ Units (World History, World Geography, U.S. History, U.S. Government [1/2 unit])
Foreign Language = 2 Units (of the same foreign language)
Fine Arts = 1 Unit
Economics = ½ Unit
Electives = 5 ½ Units
Note: Colleges & universities may have different requirements so please review their web sites for specifics. Highly selective schools may have stricter high school requirements.

Narrow down your college/university search to at least 5

Schedule a campus visit to your top choices (ask each of the colleges & universities if they have a “fly-in” all expenses program)

Research to see if your top colleges/universities accept the common application (www.commonapp.org), the universal college application (www.universalcollegeapp.com), the apply Texas application (www.applytx.org), or do they require you to complete their own application on their web site. Check for application fee waivers

Prepare a résumé to submit with your college/university application

Prepare an essay to submit with your college/university application

Collect a minimum of three Letters of Recommendation from your teachers

Request “unofficial” copies of your academic transcripts to submit with your college admissions application(s)

Request an “official” transcript be mailed to your college/university of choice by your high school upon graduation

Complete the admissions application to your top colleges/universities

Interview with an admissions representative, if required by your top colleges/universities

Know the admissions, financial aid and scholarship deadlines for each of your top choices

Apply for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov
Graduate Admissions:

Please note that this is just a guide, you should always review the specific requirements for each college or university you are interested in attending.

Research colleges/universities for graduate admission requirements based on the masters or PhD degree you wish to pursue and schedule a campus visit

Know the admissions, financial aid, and scholarship deadlines

Register for the GRE/GMAT/MAT or any other professional entrance exam necessary for your specific program of study (i.e., LSAT, MCAT, DAT, PCAT & OAT). Check with your academic advisor or Career Services department to see if you qualify for a fee waiver

Request “official” copies of your undergraduate transcript to be sent to each of the colleges/universities you are interested in attending

Request letters of recommendation from professors and/or employers

Prepare a résumé to submit with your college/university application

Apply for graduate admission (check to see if you qualify for an application fee waiver)

Apply for financial aid by completing the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov
